The ACGA Collection:
ACGA and the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries

The ACGA  has had a very successful exhibition of cut glass at the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries located on the campus of Texas A&M University. The collection is currently in storage.

There are currently more than 160 pieces in the ACGA Collection, and more in the gathering stage;  Also several private collectors have named ACGA in their wills as recipients of their glass.  The Collection also now encompasses 61 original cutting tools.

ACGA is also exploring the actuality of a major traveling exhibit.  The ACGA has presently identified over twenty museums in the United States that have expressed an interest in a traveling display of American Brilliant Cut Glass.  In order to travel and set up  exhibits, a sound fiscal base on which to build is necessary.  To that end, a group of ACGA members have formed a Development Committee whose goal is to collect funds in order to continue the quest of promoting and educating the public on American Brilliant Cut Glass through these exhibits.  For more information on how to contribute, click on Gifts & Acquisitions.  Remember, we are a non-profit organization that depends on your support.

The ACGA Collection

The ACGA collection is currently in storage while we determine the appropriate venue for display.  A big thank you to Ellaine Wilson for the work she is doing cataloging our collection.

1998.002 Bowl Rochester Fry

This bowl  was cut in the Rochester pattern by Fry.  It was donated to the ACGA Collection in 1998 by Jean C. Davison.

Four vesicas, formed by a continuous mitre cut, delineate an equal number of scallops on the bowl’s edge, each cut with 13 teeth and separated by four additional scallops, each cut with 9 teeth.   Two bars of cane cross at the bottom of the bowl and end at the center tooth of each vesica.   Each quarter section, formed by the crossed bars, is further divided by two bars of cane crossing at the bottom of the bowl and terminating at one end of a double vesica which extends to the center tooth of a lesser scallop and has its center cut in strawberry diamond.  A small mitre cut extends outward on either side of the junction of the double vesica and its caned bar.   Three caned bars, crossing the ends of each of the two major bars and terminating at the intersection with a mitre cut, divide each major scallop into six equal sections, each of which contains a rayed fan.  Each section at the bottom of the bowl, formed by the crossed bars, contains a rayed fan.

The bowl measures 4 ¾  inches high by 10 ¼  inches in diameter.
